Saoirse

Saoirse (pronounced sor-sha) is a Druid from Dunoi. The head of her circle is Orla

Background

Saoirse (pronounced ser-sha) is a weather druid in the Dunoi (I think it was called Dunoi?) tribe. Sent to learn among the druids as a child since she started showing capability (as is the custom) she has little to do with her parents and family and doesn’t know them anywhere as well as she knows the other druids – to the extent that she knows anybody. Really just sees them on festival days. The person she would know the most would be Orla, head of the druid circle.

It’s a great honour that she is a druid, but well … a few incidents as she was growing up, including setting a haystack on fire with lightning and accidentally ruining a ceremony that involved lighting lanterns and letting them float with a big gust of wind that made them fall out the sky have tarnished her reputation.

As the only weather druid, she is something of an oddity in the druid circle and her skills are not practical for the community (she doesn’t heal or grow things, is terrible at making medicines etc – her skills just aren’t very useful to the communal needs, and serving the community is at the heart of what druids are supposed to do).

Very deep down does she knows that she is has no social or hierarchical stock whatsoever in the druid circle and is ignored and ridiculed behind her back, but she pretends otherwise, and keeps her head in the clouds kind of literally about it all by finding solace in the weather and her breeze familiar, Mistral. (The actual mechanics of having a familiar is from having the ritual cast feat, and as agreed earlier, using the air mephit stat block). No one else knows about Mistral, having been ridiculed for having an imaginary friend as a child, but Mistral is her greatest and only friend really. This does mean she is lacking in some social graces and a little unaware and removed from the real world.

To try and be useful to the community, she is developing a grand theory of weather divination based on weather patterns which may or may not actually work. Finding the weather to be more welcoming than people, she secretly wonders if she might one day become wind and join the weather fully herself. Due to her powers being so different to others in her community, she also secretly suspects there’s more out there deity wise than Lyra since her powers don’t match Lyra’s traditional gifts, or manifest in the same way as other druids. She’s told her powers came ‘from Lyra’ but only gives lip service to that being true, with no real idea of their actual origin. (She’s not interested in getting into arguments or stirring up a religious revolution).

Saoirse is not looking for adventure, she just wants to be desperately useful to her community, somehow. If she thinks that she could do something useful, or if she is asked by Orla and the other druids to do something outside of the confines of Dunoi then she will do it.
